Project M.O.R.E., Inc. was established in 1974 by a diverse group of individuals. Their resolve was to assist ex-offenders with re-entry into their community – thus the official name: Project Model Offender Reintegration Experience. Initially, PMI was under the sponsorship of the now defunct Hill Neighborhood Corporation, in which it remained until 1976 when it became a non-profit agency of its own.
Upon start-up, the mission was clear though difficult: to provide employment opportunities, therapeutic services and other programming and services that would assist clients in a positive transition home from prison. While that mission remains the same today as it was then, PMI has broadened its focus to provide comprehensive programs and services that better equip clients for today’s economic and social climates.
Project M.O.R.E., Inc. has grown to operate the Alternatives In the Community Programs, the Walter Brooks Halfway House, The Project Green Transitional House, the Virginia Wells Transitional House, the Roger Everson Supportive Housing Facility, the Dutchess County Residential House (located in Poughkeepsie, New York), Probation Violation Residential Stabilization Center (PVRSC) and the Women’s Reporting Center (WRC), as well as other services catering to the complex needs of the clients.
Project M.O.R.E.’s mission is to provide a structured and systematic process to reintegrate ex-offenders into the community and to provide services to their families. In providing this service, Project M.O.R.E. works with individuals on parole, probation, bail and those released from correctional facilities.
Project Model Offender Reintegration Experience, Inc. has been providing services to ex-offenders in the Greater New Haven area for over 44 years. Through the dedication of our Board of Directors and staff, we have been successful in impacting our community in the reduction of recidivism and the increase of support for clients and their families. Our 44- year history has taught us many valuable lessons which have maintained the momentum of the agency. It was this momentum that bolstered the agency to become its own federally recognized 501:copyright:3 in 1976, which is the same energy that drives us to provide exceptional service today. With the rich history that Project M.O.R.E. brings in service and experience, we have been tasked with uplifting a complex population with limited resources and, at times, limited support. As a multi-service agency, we meet the needs of our clients directly through our case management programs, our Residential Programs which involves Transitional Housing for separate male and female occupancy, Supportive/Independent Living Housing and our Community Service Labor Program. However, we believe that through our persistent, diligent efforts, we have brought a wealth of experience and knowledge in service delivery to thousands of clients served as well as being prepared to serve thousands more.
Today, I believe that in order to take our organization to the next level, we will need to expand our knowledge of current marketing practices relevant to today’s age of technology. As our census grows, I see Project M.O.R.E., Inc. as being on track to meet the additional needs of our clients in spite of the looming economy and potential policy shifts in the criminal justice system. It is my hope that you will collaborate in supporting Project MORE, Inc. as we continue to help reintegrate ex-offenders into our community in a safe, structured and positive manner.
